About Lazy Women

Who we are

Lazy Women is a global, non-profit feminist media platform and community.

Lazy Women started in 2020 as an act of rebellion: born out of lockdown frustrations, political backlash, and one too many men calling us lazy, we decided to turn that insult into a statement. By connecting the personal to the political, we shed light on how “laziness” can be an act of resistance; a refusal to perform, to please, or to conform.

Today, Lazy Women is an independent newsroom of more than 50 contributors worldwide, bringing fresh, fearless women’s perspectives to a feminist discourse still dominated by Western voices.

Mission

Our mission is to redefine feminist storytelling through intimate essays, powerful illustrations, and creative workshops that blur the line between reflection and action. Our work makes visible what’s often overlooked: the power of everyday stories—often dismissed as too “personal”—that are capable of exposing the common threads and deeply political nature behind women’s lived experiences across the globe. Every piece we publish is an act of reclamation: a way to reclaim our narratives, our voices, and our space, to reshape the way we see ourselves and the world.

Why “Lazy”?

Lazy Women was born in the context of Covid-19, where many of us were forced to stay at home, and the way we made use of the ‘domestic’ sphere was reevaluated. For many, this time, where the lines between domesticity, leisure and work were blurred, offered a chance to, if not embrace, then reflect on what it means to be lazy. This disruption to the public-private dichotomy influenced us to create Lazy Women.

Our name is inspired by the experience of being called lazy – while we have all been called lazy at some point in our lives, the quality of laziness is often associated with womanhood. She is traditionally seen as the homemaker, occupied with reproductive, invisible tasks and making room for men to pursue public activities perceived as productive. Although the public-private, productive-reproductive dichotomies have been challenged by feminism, their legacy remains.

We challenge the negative connotation of laziness and reclaim it by making “public” the many endeavours women worldwide pursue, often in the “private sphere”, which are considered less valuable than monetized or public work. We aim to build a community that embraces the diversity of womanhood and shares insight about lived experiences, political and social issues, successes, and life stories, drawing more attention to experiences and issues faced by women.
